Watch: Why you should stop saying ‘Sorry’, now

Experts are not advocating for rudeness, just for using words correctly

Find yourself apologising all the time? Saying sorry at the drop of a hat? Stop. Experts and studies found that we end up apologising most time for things we are not actually sorry about.

The word also inspires guilt when none is called for - when we say "sorry" instead of "excuse me," We tend to feel that we are doing something wrong, even if we are actually not. The apology for normal behaviour makes you feel as if your actions need to be apologized for.

Experts are not advocating for rudeness, just for using words correctly. "Excuse me" is polite; sorry is unnecessarily self-deprecating.

Instead of throwing the word ‘sorry’ around frivolously it will do us good if we take a moment and look into what we are being sorry about. If our acts are actually regrettable, then the best thing to do is to look into our acts and refine them for future use.

So I'm going to make a conscious effort to use sorry only when I genuinely need to apologise, will my life change if I only use "sorry" when it's actually correct to do so?

I'm not sorry to say that I think it will.
