Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has initiated the contract workers recruitment here on Tuesday. The VMC has decided to pay Rs 275 per each contract worker during the strike period. The VMC council led by Mayor Koneru Sridhar has specially conducted a meeting on the ongoing municipal workers strike and city’s cleanliness.
The council meeting has decided to request the municipal workers to join duties immediately. The meeting has also taken a decision to appoint the new workers in the place of existing staff.
Mayor Sridhar instructed the officials to take steps not to spread diseases from unhealthy conditions. Deputy Mayor G. Ramana Rao and several corporators were also present. However, the agitating 4,000 VMC contract workers may react on the issue seriously. Already, the leaders of Left parties demanded the government to solve the problem instead of creating more challenges by appointing new staff.
