Tirunelveli: School and college students thronged the Tirunelveli district collector’s office demanding regular bus services to their villages during school timings in the morning and evening. Due to highly battered roads, bus services operated both by the state transport corporation and private firms have stopped completely to around 6 villages including Sivanthipaty, Muthur and Kodikulam located within 15 km from Tirunelveli city.
This has created great hardship for around 800 school and college students coming to Palayamkotai and Tirunelveli daily.The students demanded that the district administration take necessary action to restore proper bus services to the villages especially during peak hours in the morning and evening.The students were made to wait for more than 2 hours on Tuesday at the district collector’s office, but could not meet him, and were sent back to school by police.
