Tirunelveli: Retired workers and officials from the Tamil Nadu state transport corporation (TNSTC) in Tirunelveli staged a demonstration with begging bowls on Tuesday, demanding the immediate disbursement of their retirement benefits.
According to P. Manoharan, president of the TNSTC retired employees association, around 800 retired employees - conductors, driver, fitter and higher officials in the administration were not paid gratuity, provident fund or pension and other retirement benefits due to them since 2011 in Tirunelveli division.
Tirunelveli district CITU secretary R Mohan, who also participated in the novel protest said that it was not fair on the part of the state transport authorities to inordinately delay the disbursement of retirement benefits as much of the amount was contributed from their salaries earlier. It is said that more than 15,000 retired employees from TNSTC are yet to receive their retirement benefits in the state.
