Jayalalithaa said that it would not be an exaggeration' to say that his songs still continue to be popular among people
Chennai: In a statement condoling the death and expressing regret at MSV not receiving a Padma award despite her recommending him for Padma Vibushan during her first stint as Chief Minister in 1991, Jayalalithaa hailed the director who had composed for over 1,200 films as “king of melody”. She said the Central governments, which did not oblige Tami Nadu, ignored this (recommendation) as well.
Also describing him as a “loving, humble, affable and spiritual person”, whose musical journey had started at the age of 13, Jayalalithaa also recalled the old numbers O meri dilruba in the movie Suriyagandhi and Chithira Mandapathil in Anbai Thedi she had sung with tunes set by him.
Highlighting the ease with which he played piano, harmonium and keyboard, Jayalalithaa said that it would not be an exaggeration' to say that his songs still continue to be popular among people.
Stating that his unparalleled talent has brought great pride to Tamil cinema and the state, the CM said that his death was an irreparable loss to the tinsel town.
