ALAPPUZHA: The police have not made any breakthrough in the case relating to the death of two Plus-One students of Konni, S. Raji, 16, and Athira R. Nair, 16, whose bodies were found on the railway track near Ottapalam on Monday. Another girl, Arya K. Suresh, 16, is battling for her life at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital.
The special investigation team set up under IG Manoj Abraham to investigate the deaths does not suspect any social media abuse behind the incident.
The IG held discussions with the team members at Konni on Tuesday. Team member A. Nissam, DySP, Adoor, told DC that the statement of the injured girl would be crucial.
A team of police officials was sent to collect her statement, but she remains unconscious.
A medical test on her proved that she was not sexually abused. The autopsy report on the deceased girls was not available.
It is said that the girls, students of GHSS Konni, were depressed for a long time due to family issues. A girl was said to be suffering from inferiority complex because she was not beautiful.
One of them had taken a loan by pledging the chain of her mother resulting in some family problems. They were also not up to the mark in the recent examinations. However, the real reason behind the incident has to be found out, said Mr Nissam.
A youth who allegedly had connection with the girls through Facebook was taken into custody. The DYFI staged a protest march in Konni demanding a though investigation into the incident.
