My son lost his life for the nation: Dornier co-pilot's father
Reacting to queries if there were any human bones among the items, Suresh answered
Chennai: “The last time I met him was on May 25. A fortnight later came the fearful news,” said Venkatesh Balasubramanian, cousin of co-pilot deputy commandant Subash Suresh. Fondly remembering Subhash, Venkatesh said he is that one guy who will always go out of his way to help people. “Even on the last day when we met he had come to help his colleague whose child was being admitted in school. If someone needed help he was the one we could bank upon.”
He was also extremely ambitious and passionate about flying and was the first pilot from his family, said Venkatesh. Hailing from a middle class family he has managed to achieve so much. “He also used to encourage all the children in our family to become pilots,” he said adding that Subhash was a gaming freak. He loved playing on his playstation and on occasions would play Fifa.
But for Deputy Commandant Subash’s father, this was not the end. S. Suresh expressed hope that his son may still be alive. Suresh was called to the Coast Guard office near the Officer’s Training Academy on Tuesday where the remnants from the Dornier aircraft were kept. “I was initially told to report around 1 pm, but later told to come in early,” Suresh told media persons. “I sent my son to fight for the country. Now, it is up to the Coast Guard to answer a father’s grievance,” he said.
Reacting to queries if there were any human bones among the items, Suresh answered in the negative. There was a wristwatch kept on display for identification. “They said that it was recovered almost a mile away from the Dornier debris,” Suresh said emphasizing that it was not his son’s watch.
Radhika, sister-in-law of navigator Deputy Commandant MK Soni said, “It has been a very traumatic period for us. Today’s findings are huge setback for us but as a family we have to get through it.”
“Not everybody dedicates their life to the country, but he did. He enriched our lives for all these years and keeping that in mind we want to remember him as a person who and helped us grow personally and professionally and in all the ways possible,” she said.
The family is now awaiting the analysis of the blackbox and a final closure as to what exactly happened with the aircraft.
