Transgender mocked at top cop’s office in Hyderabad
The transphobic violence happened when Bhavana, a trans-woman approached Ajay Singh, a shopkeeper, for alms
Hyderabad: “For around two hours, we became an entertainment for passerby’s as we were made to wait outside the Cyberabad Commissionerate and were not given permission to meet the Commissioner,” alleged Chandramukhi Muvvala, a member of TS Hijra Transgender Samiti, who along with eight other transgenders had gone to the office to demand an unbiased investigation into the assault on Hijra women in Suraram Colony recently. The transphobic violence happened when Bhavana, a trans-woman approached Ajay Singh, a shopkeeper, for alms.
A total of eight transwomen were detained by the Dundigal police and TTHS demanded action against the cops who acted in a biased manner and delayed treatment to the injured and booked an FIR for trespassing into the shop.
“When the shop owner started hurling abuses, I called up other Hijra sisters for help and before they turned up, the shop owner and other people started beating me up. I fell down during empty crates of soft-drinks were thrown on my head and chest and I was beaten up with a steel mop,” 23-year-old Bhavana said.

Vyjayanti Vasantha Mogli, a trans-rights activist and TTHS member alleged that “When seven transwomen came down to help Bhavana, sub-inspector Pavan did nothing to stop it and reportedly told our sisters that all hijras deserve to be lynched by a mob.”
