The art of strobing

New make-up technique to attract light to the high points of your face is what is trending

The make-up trick that was trending last year was contouring. Kim Kardashian led the make-up mania and this year too, she has the world talking about another make-up technique, strobing.

The perfect way to hide those bags under your eyes or the one-stop solution to make sure you stand out in a party — strobing is the make-up technique that will help you.

Elton Fernandez, make-up and hair-stylist, who has used this technique for many shoots, explains: “It’s like attracting light to your face. Apply a cream or a liquid highlighter on the high points of your face, like above the eyebrow on the temple, tip of the nose, area of the nose between the eyes etc. You have to be careful while applying on the chin, as it tends to be sweaty. So basically, when you are done, it bounces off light, just like strobe lights do.”

Sachin Dakoji, creative head of Manea, says, “It’s like when you enter a disco, the strobe lights first hit the high points of your face. It’s as if you are mimicking nature, because when you step out, the sun’s rays first hit these parts. And by strobing you are highlighting those parts. You need to have a shimmery highlighter and apply it by probably using a fan brush. First apply foundation and then where you feel you need correction, apply an orange or yellow based corrector and blend it well.”

But Elton also has a word of caution: “Don’t overdo it. With your ring finger, apply as little of the highlighter as possible. And blend well. Also, make sure you use a shimmery highlighter as only then it will bounce the light well.”
