Pataki performer in town
This Chikmagalur hudugi quit engineering to become an actress. It’s a gamble that has paid off well for Ranya
After her dream debut alongside Kiccha Sudeep, this Chikmagalur beauty has struck a golden opportunity. Ranya, who is on a dream run since her debut, has two Tamil films and her latest Kannada venture Pataki opposite Golden Star Ganesh. Ranya who quit her engineering degree to pursue her childhood dream of acting, talks about her upcoming project Pataki in which she portrays the role of a video journalist, and much more.
“Since childhood, I have always wanted to become an actress, and hence I convinced my parents to let me pursue acting, instead of wasting my time studying something which I had no interest in. After I quit my engineering in the first year, I shifted to Mumbai to learn acting. I joined Kishore Namit Kapoor’s classes, and later Mukesh Chhabra. This is when I got an offer to act in Maanikya. When I have time on my hands, I head back to acting classes, as I strongly believe that learning acting is a life long process,” says Ranya, who is all excited about her second Kannada venture.
She recently wrapped up the first schedule of her Tamil venture Wagah, in which she stars opposite Vikram Prabhu. The film is directed by GNR Kumaravelan.
Wrapping up the recent shoot in the remote forests of Ooty, Ranya says that it was a great experience, “As I get to learn a new language in a different working atmosphere.”
A state level basketball player, Ranya reveals that she was always involved in athletics since school, “I was very much into sports, and I represented the state in basketball. Though I play most sports, I’m good at basketball. I stopped playing after I started taking acting classes. Until recently, I use to play various sports to keep myself fit but I am now hooked onto yoga. I feel yoga helps me stay flexible and stretched,” she adds.
In Pataki, she plays the role of a journalist. “I play a TV anchor fighting against corruption. Though it is the remake of Pataas in Telugu, I have not watched the original film and am just following the director’s instruction,” she reveals. In her free time, she also enjoys reading fiction besides spending time with her family and friends.
“My friends are my stress busters and help me relax if I am under pressure while working.”
Before she wraps up, Ranya says that her siblings (who are studying) and her parents are her biggest strength as they supported her decision to quit her studies and pursue her dream, acting.
