US Vice President resolves the mystery of Bidens in Mumbai
Washington: US Vice President Joe Biden now appears to have resolved the mystery behind his distant relatives living in Mumbai, India.
Decades after he received a letter from someone by the last name of Biden from Mumbai, when he became a US Senator, the Vice President has now learned that his "great, great, great, great, great grandfather" worked in East India Company.
"There are five Bidens in Mumbai, India," the Vice President told a Washington audience at an event organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of India-US civil nuclear deal.
Two years ago, when Mr Biden travelled to Mumbai on his maiden vice presidential trip to India, he spoke about this letter that he received when he became the Senator for the first time several decades ago.
"It turns out," Mr Biden said his "great, great, great, great, great grandfather," by the name of George Biden was Captain in East India Trading company. After retirement, Mr Biden said George Biden decided to settle in India and married an Indian woman.
The Vice President said someone has provided him with the details including the phone numbers of the Bidens in Mumbai.
He has not called them yet, but is planning to do so.
