Mulayam vs IPS officer: UP top cop taken to task, bureaucrats fume
Netaji was only trying to make him understand the things, says Akhilesh Yadav
New Delhi: In the midst of his tussle with Mulayam Singh Yadav, senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur on Monday approached the Union home ministry and sought a CBI probe into the rape case filed against him after he lodged a complaint against the SP Chief for threatening him. In a late development, sources said that he was suspended.
Mr Thakur, an IG-rank officer, met additional secretary in the ministry of home affairs Anant Kumar Singh in Delhi and also sought Central force protection for himself and his wife and social activist Nutan Thakur.
“Mulayam Singh Yadav had threatened me with dire consequences. So, I have met the additional secretary and sought security for me and my wife by central forces,” he said.
Mr Thakur said a “false” rape case had been slapped against him after he lodged a complaint against the ruling SP supremo in Lucknow on July 10 for threatening him. “I want a CBI investigation into the rape charge against me,” he said. With the incident, the rift between the Executive and the Legislature in Uttar Pradesh has come to the fore. Many IPS and IAS officers are taking warpath against the government.
According to sources, there are at least three more IAS officers waiting in the wings to unfurl the banner of revolt against the Akhilesh government. The social networking sites are fuelling the tussle and the instant support from the common people actually encourages officer to revolt. Earlier, officers including Pramila Shankar, Raju Sharma and D.D. Misra have taken on the political bosses
UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, on the other hand, defended his father and said, “Netaji (MSY) was only trying to make him understand the things and now it has been blown out of proportion.”
