Tobacco prices fall drastically

Steps taken by the board to get a better price were not fruitful
Ongole: Due to reduction of demand for tobacco in international and domestic markets, tobacco price has been falling for the last two months. Tobacco which was sold at Rs 120 per kg during the same period last year is now being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Sometimes the buyers are not coming forward to purchase tobacco at some auction platforms in Prakasam district. If the same situation continues, the tobacco price will fall further. A few corporate companies are not coming forward to purchase tobacco.
Though Union minister for commerce Nirmala Sitaraman instru-cted the buyers to purchase tobacco at the rate fixed by the officials, they are not coming forward to purchase tobacco. So far traders have purchased 60 million kg out of 130 million kg production in the state.
Steps taken by the board to get a better price were not fruitful. The Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed ire on the officials for their failure to get a better price.
