Telangana, Andhra Pradesh BJP to get new chiefs soon
Hyderabad: BJP national president Amit Shah is most likely to revamp the state party units in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the next few months, including replacing G. Kishen Reddy and Mr Kambhampati Haribabu, who are presently heading the two state units.
Sources close to the BJP national leadership told this newspaper that Mr Shah was unhappy with the way the two party units were functioning despite being told to take up activities vigorously to strengthen and expand the party base.
Mr Shah had recently communicated his displeasure to both state core committees at a review meeting held at Bengaluru. He had even reportedly remarked about the Telangana state unit that “weekend programmes will only weaken the party” and had asked them to come up with alternative plans for taking up public issues to expand the party base.
There is a clear-cut rule being followed in the BJP that no person is allowed to continue for a consecutive third term as president of any unit in the party.
Telangana party president G. Kishen Reddy will be completing his second term in October this year and there is no chance that he will continue.
In AP, Visakhapatnam MP Kambhampati Haribabu, was named state party chief last year after the bifurcation, but party sources said Mr Shah has decided to go for a new face this time.
However, there is some confusion among BJP leaders of both states. While in Telangana the BJP is in the opposition, its counterpart in AP is sharing power with the TD government.
Regardless of the alliance, Mr Shah has advised the AP unit to expand the party base by taking up programmes including vigorous campaign of Central government schemes and the party ideology to every corner of the state.
As far as Telangana is concerned, the state unit has been asked to identify public issues and start agitations, besides taking up party programmes in a big way.
