Private operators target APSRTC business, create chaos

Buses pick passengers at Manipuram flyover stalling traffic
Guntur: With the APSRTC Guntur division having implemented the Parirakshana scheme, private bus operators are now stopping their buses at Manipuram flyover near APSRTC bus station instead of the spot opposite to the bus station like before to lure passengers, causing traffic snarls late at night in Guntur city.
Also, most of the private bus operators have opened their booking offices and consultancies exactly opposite to the APSRTC NTR bus station in Guntur city and are picking up passengers from there itself.
When the corporation learnt about this new development, it tried to prevent the private buses from tapping into its client base by not letting them stop their buses opposite to the bus stations at late night for long journeys to places like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Shirdi.
However, now the private operators have found a comfortable place at Manipuram flyover, which is opposite to the NTR bus station, to park their buses at late night hours and pick up passengers.
Meanwhile, this act of the private bus operators leads to frequent traffic jams at the bus station every night causing great inconvenience to commuters. It must be noted that the Manipuram flyover is one of the important roadways to reach the Chennai-Kolkata Nati-onal Highway from the bus station.
Sk Sardar, a passenger onboard a bus from Guntur to Hyderabad on Sunday night, said that the bus was stranded there for more than half an hour because of heavy traffic on the flyover. This is not a lone incident as frequent jams are common due to the new practice of the private bus operators.
