Karnataka: Farmer suicides continue unchecked, 4 more die
Hubballi/Chitradurga/Mysuru: Four more debt-ridden farmers ended their lives in Karnataka while the third was rushed to a hospital after he consumed poison.
Mahadevappa Gangangoudar, 65, of Aladageri village in Hirekerur taluk of Haveri ended his life by consuming pesticides on his 1.5 acre farm on Monday. He suffered loss of crops over the last two years though he had sunk borewells with the help of Rs 75,000 borrowed from SBI.
In another case, Basavaraj Kudari, 30, committed suicide by consuming poison in Kabbenur village of Dharwad on Monday. He had grown cotton, green grams and onions on six acres of agricultural land, and had borrowed Rs 1.20 lakhs from Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank for sowing operations.
Rudragouda Patil, 42, of Bhagawad village, Kundagol taluk, was admitted to KIMS after he gulped down poison. Sources said he has taken more than Rs 10 lakhs loan for cultivation of cotton and maize over the last two years.
Unable to repay a loan, 45 year-old Siddesh hanged himself at Kunabevu village in Chitradurga. Kumara, of Valagere in Nanjangud talukwho was under pressure from private money lenders, committing suicide in the CM’s hometown.
