Hyderabad High Court verdict on BE colleges tomorrow
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday said that it would pronounce its decision on Wednesday and if necessary revise the order of the single judge granted in favour of private engineering colleges, in the interest of students.
A division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt was hearing appeals by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, contending that the single judge had erroneously concluded that JNTU had no power to reject affiliation of colleges which did not have minimum infrastructural facilities.
Telangana advocate general K. Ramakrishna Reddy, appearing for the varsity, said that the petitioner colleges had failed in fulfilling their assurance given to JNTU while seeking affiliation for the years 2012-13, 2014-15 that they would rectify all the deficiencies pointed out by the inspection teams.
As the colleges had failed to provide basic infrastructure and teaching faculty despite several reminders, JNTU had rejected their affiliations and also reduced intake capacity of seats in certain colleges.
He said the varsity as well as the government had decided to not allow those colleges’ that were not fulfilling basic requirements.
The Bench said, “We are aware of the concern of the varsity. We will also take a decision keeping in view of the interest of the students.”
The counsel for the All India Council for Technical Education said that the single judge had ordered the inspection to be completed by July 20 but it was difficult to do so.
The Bench said that it would look into the aspect on Wednesday and also work out possibilities to constitute two teams with two members from each from JNTU and AICTE to complete inspection of 100 private engineering colleges in Telangana by July 20.
