Garbage piling up at all major centres across Vijayawada
Waste from households are not being collected too
Vijayawada: It has been over three days in Vijayawada and garbage piled up at dustbins has still not been cleared. Waste from households are not being collected too.
All these on account of a strike by municipal employees.
Municipal officials have made a few alternative arrangements to transport garbage from roads and dispose them at city outskirts. At this crucial juncture, there is no sight of elected representatives, politicia-ns, celebrities and activists, who came out on the streets promoting Swachh Bharath and Swachh Andhra Pradesh programmes initiated by governments few months ago.
Starting with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who flagged off the Swachh Andhra Pradesh event in the city, ministers, MP, MLAs, Mayors, corporators, political parties and other personalities cashed in on the programme to earn fame and extend their support to their superiors.
Now denizens are upset with the officials and representatives, who partook in Swachh Bharath programme just for publicity sake and for not being around when cooperation is really needed.
“Now there is no Swachh Barath that helps us get rid of stinking dumper bins and littered streets. For four days we are forced to keep the waste at home or throw it at the already overloaded dumper bin. Conducting Swachh Bharath programme now really can help the public but no one seems interested,” said a student P. Srujan.
Meanwhile, officials are trying to rope in NCC, NS-S cadets clear the waste.
