Emirates launches weekly service from Vallarpadam ICTT
Kochi: Prominent shipping company Emirates Shipping Line along with a consortium of four vessel operators on Monday launched GALEX, a new shipping service connecting main ports in the region to Vallarpadam international container transshipment terminal (ICTT).
A ship in the weekly service called at ICTT, bringing a fresh lease of life to the struggling terminal.
GALEX has seven vessels with a capacity of 6,500 TEUs each and the ships will embark from Pusan, South Korea, and will call at Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Singapore, Port Klang, Colombo, Kochi, Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Jebel Ali on the outward route of the new service.
The return route will depart from Jebel Ali direct to Port Klang, Hong Kong and finally back to Pusan. “We care fully confident of the success of the line,” Mr Noel Rattan, vice-president, Emirates Shipping Lines, told reporters here.
The company will explore the possibility of adding Kochi to its list on the return journey, too, he said.
