CM Oommen Chandy asks PM Modi to restrain AGI
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday asked Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi to restrain Attorney-General of India (AGI) Mukul Rohatgi from appearing in the bar case when it comes up for hearing in the Supreme Court on July 28.
In a letter, he said the AGI’s contention was that the bar owners were his clients before he assumed the office.
“Mr Rohatgi should have relinquished from that commitment. The reasoning that AGI was not appearing against the centre but only against the state government is morally and legally incorrect,” Mr Chandy said.
The statement of union law minister Sadananda Gowda that there is nothing wrong in AGI's action and that the centre had given him permission is against the federal structure and basic principles of the Constitution,” Mr Chandy said.
