Bengaluru: Braveheart police team rushes pregnant woman to hospital in patrol vehicle

City policemen came to the rescue of a pregnant woman at an odd hour

BENGALURU: In a scene straight out of India Incredible! advertisement where a Good Samaritan rushes a woman in labour to a nearby hospital, city policemen came to the rescue of a pregnant woman at an odd hour and reached her to a hospital, where she delivered safely. The mother and the baby girl are healthy, said the proud father Manoharan (37).

“Today, if I am a proud father of a little baby girl, it is because of the Bengaluru police. A Hoysala patrolling team came to the rescue of my family at an odd hour early on Sunday morning and saved the lives of my wife and our baby,” said Manoharan, an electrician and a resident of Hegganahalli.

It was early on Sunday morning, when his wife Asha (34) started experiencing labour pains. As an anxious Manoharan ran around hunting for an autorickshaw, he could not find any. The situation turned grave as Asha started experiencing more frequent spasms.

It was then that two police constables – Chetan Kumar and Sadashiva of Rajagopalnagar police station, who were on their night patrolling duty – noticed a harried Manoharan. He quickly explained the situation to the policemen, who alerted Police Inspector Mahananda. The inspector called the control room to arrange for an ambulance.

But the policemen realised that the ambulance may not reach on time to help the couple. Mr Mahanada, without wasting anymore time, directed his Assistant Sub-Inspector Thottalaiah and his staff, constables Mohan and Chetan Kumar, to shift Asha to the nearest hospital in their Hoysala vehicle.

“Asha was rushed to ESI Hospital just in time and within the next 10 minutes, she gave birth to a baby girl. It was a moment of great joy for the entire team when we received the news that the mother and the newborn girl were healthy,” said a proud Mahananda.
