18 at LMS boarding hit by food poisoning

Five of the 18 victims were admitted at MCH and the rest of them were discharged by the evening

Hyderabad: As many as 18 inmates of the LMS girls boarding home had food poisoning after eating breakfast served by the mess on Monday.

Kids 9 to 12 years old complained of vomiting and stomachache and were taken immediately to the General Hospital. Later, all the 18 students were referred to the Medical College Hospital.

Five of the 18 victims were admitted at MCH and the rest of them were discharged by the evening.

A senior food safety official, who was part of the team, inspected the spot and collected food samples for further scrutiny.

“The children are out of danger and none of them are critical. The hostel authorities served Dosa and chutney for breakfast and we could not find the reason for the food poisoning. We have collected samples for further scrutiny,” said the food safety officer. The incident happened in the morning and food safety authorities swung into action immediately.

“After the inspection we visited General Hospital but by that time they were sent to the MCH. We were at MCH till 3 pm. Only five kids were admitted and none of them was critical,” said the officer.
