13-member team for 2015 Special Olympics
RDT sponsors expenses for specially-challenged players
Anantapur: A 13- member team of specially-abled athletes from RDT is going to participate in 2015 Special Olympics to be held at Los Angeles in America. Rural Development Trust, running a school for visually impaired and mentally challenged children in Anantapur, and encouraging children to take part in international events since six years.
The RDT teams were representing India since four Special Olympics and also proved existence by wining medals. Specially-abled athletes participated in Special Olympics held at Athens, Greece capital in 2011 and South Korea in 2013 beginning and Australia in 2013 ending. Later, the team went to Spain and participated in 2015 January Special Olympics.
Normally, running sports for normal students was a task while RDT had also giving priority equal to encouraging the children of specially-abled to participate in national and international events. The athletes being trained to practice their regular daily habits along with sports events, RDT director Anne Ferror said.
"Parents of specially-abled children worry about their future, but achievement in international level sports and games bring hopes among the parents," RDT director Manchu Ferror told DC.
He further added RDT athletes bagged many medals during their participation since four international Olympics. Fakrubi was trained to run equal to normal athletes as she led 4x100 metres relay got gold medal in 2011 Athens Special Olympics.
She also won bronze medal in shot put. A 21 member athletes' team of special Olympics in 2013 special Olympics for Asia Pacific countries dominated the event by bagging 26 medals, Mr Manchu Ferror recalled.
The athletes won 10 gold, 14 silver and two bronze medals in various events. One gold, silver and bronze medals were bagged in 2014 special Olympics held at Barcelona. The Rural Development Trust is sponsoring the athletes to participate in the events at Los Angeles - 2015 to be held by July end.
