Asaduddin Owaisi big hit in Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh
Hyderabad: Thousands of supporters congregated at an Iftar in Bengaluru which was attended by MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday. The organisers had a tough time as people pushed each other trying to get a glimpse of Mr Owaisi.
Mr Owaisi’s visit to Bengaluru had been some time in coming. In February, the Bengaluru police commissioner had imposed prohibitory orders, banning a public meeting organised by the MIM. Mr Owaisi had also drawn response at Iftar parties in Meerut and Agra in Uttar Pradesh.
“Around 6,000 people had assembled at the Meerut Iftar party though the announcement of Mr Owaisi’s presence was made just a day before the visit. The Abu-al-ala shrine, which was the venue for the Iftar party in Agra, was jam-packed,” said UP MIM convenor Shaukat Ali.
In UP too, local officials had barred Mr Owaisi from holding a public meeting at Allahabad. Sources said that at the UP Iftars, Mr Owaisi briefed local leaders on the 2017 state elections. The state has district-level MIM offices in 42 districts. It has 3 lakh members and booth-level presence in around 25 districts, added Mr Shaukat Ali.
