Teachers' Colony shows secure path
Police chief asks other colonies to follow the Teachers’ Colony model
Vijayawada: Teachers' Colony, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, installed 32 CCTV cameras covering the entire premises and set up a control room. It has showed the path to other colonies to provide security to residents.
The Colony won accolades from, among others, East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao and former city top cop A.B. Ven-kateswara Rao. The Colony was formed in 1976, when around 90 teachers and lecturers from Krishna District Teachers’ Association were given houses in the area. The colony is well maintained with parks and has all amenities, and has been the prime choice for many people in the city looking for a permanent address.
“We have launched a security scheme by putting up 32 high-resolution CCTV cameras on all the Colony roads with a dedicated control room. The new security system has yielded good results so far,” said Mr R. Amarnath, retired headmaster, secretary of the colony.
Mr Gurra Sudhakar, who has been taking care of the colony right from its inception, said, “Youth from many places used to gather at the Fun Time club in the evenings to do bike races and illegal activities. But all that is in the past. No such cases have been seen after the CCTVs were installed.” He said, “All the 32 cameras come with high definition recording at 1 mega pixel.” The police commissioner who inaugurated the security appreciated the residents' initiative and and wanted all the colonies in the city to follow the same.
