Thiruvananthapuram: Even as the Trivandrum Development Authority (Trida) is gearing up to kick off the work of the proposed busbay cum shopping complex at Attakulangara School land, the school protection committee has decided to file a review petition in the HC against the construction of a shopping space on the school land.
Trida has decided to execute the construction work of the busbay cum shopping complex without going for a tender to avoid unnecessary delay. But, the protection committee maintains its stand that Trida has withheld several matters from the Court.
Trida chairman P K Venugopal said that all three works including construction of classrooms, compound wall and busbay would be kicked off simultaneously. “We do not want any more delay. The project was conceived long back and we had to halt procedures because of the stay order from the Court. Tenders would be invited for the construction of classrooms,” said Mr Venugopal. He said that an architectural consultant would be roped in to finalise the design of the busbay.
However, the school protection committee alleged that Trida had misled the Court by not producing the real data. General Secretary of Attakulangara Central School Saji Kumar said that even KSRTC had frowned on this project.
“The technical study of KSRTC disapproved this project and demanded land at Erumakkuzhy for busbay construction. Also Trida informed the Court that there were only 55 students in the school. But the current strength is 154,” said Mr Saji Kumar.
He said that the protection committee would stop construction of the commercial space on school land at any cost. “We cannot let this happen. Trida is eying this land for commercial benefits not for decongesting East Fort. We will file the review petition on Tuesday,” said Mr Saji Kumar.
Criticising local MLA Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Mr Saji Kumar said that not even a single meeting was convened in his presence to sort out the issue.
