KSRTC plans to keep hub in loop
Kochi: The Vytilla Mobility Hub is fast losing its sheen as long-haul services of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) are giving it a miss during the night.
All that may change in the near future when commuters can catch long haul buses from the hub at any time. The KSRTC authorities are discussing a proposal to operate all buses round the clock through the Hub.
“Discussions are still going on. The buses coming from Thrissur side would take left and go to the Hub straight before going to the depot through Kadavantra-Kathrikadavu route during the night. Similarly, the buses going towards the Northern region from the depot would go to the Hub and proceed straight to Edapally,” a senior KSRTC officer said.
The decision if taken would mean the buses would skip city areas like Kaloor and North. Initially, KSRTC was planning to shift all its superclass services from the Hub instead of the Ernakulam depot, however, the move was scrapped due to parking space shortage at the Hub.
Currently, most of the superclass buses proceeding towards Thiruvananthapuram touch Vytilla before proceeding through the NH-47 bypass during the day. But the buses proceed through the Thevara-Edakochi route to reach Aroor during the night.
“To facilitate short-distance commuters to reach their destinations during the night, we are planning to operate low-floor AC buses on select routes,” the officer said.
