Hyderabad: Thirty-six-year-old Rohit Bhanushali, a software engineer working for Dell, died on Sunday at the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences due to complications during a spondylitis surgery. His parents and relatives protested at the hospital and the police was called in.

Rohit’s father Vijay Bhanushali said, “My son was fit. He had spondylitis. He drove to the hospital but during the operation he lapsed into coma. We are not getting any response from the hospital.”

Mr Vijay, who along with the relatives was at the hospital to claim the body, wanted to know how a simple operation went wrong. KIMS Hospital CEO Dr Bhaskar Rao said, “There was no negligence. There was a complication during the surgery and despite best efforts it didn't work.”

The tension at the hospital was palpable. The hospital authorities claimed they had asked the police to step in for security reasons. Dr Rao added, “Whenever there is a threat the police is called.” Late in the evening Mr Vijay was asked to collect the body.
