Civic issues stop colony from being truly Adarsh
M. Padmavathi, another resident of the colony, said that there has been a lot of improvement in the roads and civic amenities
Visakhapatnam: Tucked away on the outskirts of the city, Adarshnagar Colony near old Dairy Farm junction is endowed with a quiet location and is a pleasant place to live in due to its topographical advantages. But with rapid expansion of the city, apartment culture had slowly crept into this colony and several high-rise apartments dot around the colony. Many of the residents being employees, the colony houses about 1,500 families.
Situated roughly 3 km from Maddilapalem and adjoined by National Highway, the colony is surrounded by greenery and hills, makes the location pollution-free and registers 3 degrees Celsius, lesser than the city temperatures.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Indukuri Sridevi, who has been living in the colony since 1980s, said, “When we shifted to this colony, there were merely 50 houses and nobody was ready to purchase a housing plot in this area in those times. But with time, the colony has become a concrete jungle and the cost of living in this colony has also risen.” When asked about the civic problems, she raised the issues of stray dogs and chain-snatching.
An off-course horse race betting centre which is situated in the middle of the colony is a concern for many residents as it’s making the local youth addicted to betting besides the vehicles of the punters blocking the roads.
M. Padmavathi, another resident of the colony, said that there has been a lot of improvement in the roads and civic amenities. But she expressed her concern over sanitation in the colony and a neighbouring wine shop which is giving a hard time to women to walk by the shop. True to her words, littering is seen in many spots of the colony.
K. Surya Kiran, an engineering student, said that the area has everything of a modern city colony, from upscale markets to proximity to the city, which made him choose the area to pursue his studies.
Surrounded by Ravindranagar and Indiranagar, Adarshnagar Colony is fast becoming a hot favourite with the Vizagites.
