Security firm head suffer bullet injuries
Chennai: A 64-year-old operations manager at Brinks India, a private cash transfer services company, suffered bullet injuries after a security guard opened fire ‘accidentally’ within the company premises at T. Nagar on Saturday. While the manager is out of danger, police said strict action would be taken against Brinks India, the security firm guard and the private hospital that provided treatment to the victim for not informing the police about the incident for more than 24 hours.
The victim, T. Desigan, a resident of Luz Church road, Mylapore, works as an operational manager at Brinks India, a private security systems and cash management company. He oversees operations involving cash transfers from banks to ATM machines. On Saturday, around 11.30 am, Desigan was monitoring operations at the Habibullah road office when a loaded gun slipped out of security guard S. Lakshmikanthan Yadav's hand. Yadav is a native of Uttar Pradesh and works with Starline security services in Ambattur and was employed on a contract basis to the cash management company, police said.
“Three bullets pierced through Desigan’s legs below his knees. Two of them hit the left leg and the other on the right,” Teynampet Assistant Commissioner S. Sivabaskar said. The company hushed up the incident and got the manager admitted to Bharatiraja Hospital nearby. Teynampet police who learnt of the incident only on Sunday arrested the guard booking him under section 338 IPC (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).“We have already issued a memo to the security firms and also to the hospital. We will be booking them soon,” ACP Sivabaskar said.
