‘What Sachin did for cricket, Sania has done for Tennis in India’…. So rang the slogans loud and clear on social media that was abuzz with the historic win. As tennis champ Sania Mirza from Hyderabad and Martina Hingis from Switzerland lifted the double’s Wimbledon trophy this Saturday, the nation joined them in celebration.
“Allhamdulillah... First and foremost what a day it’s been.. Woowwww Wimbledon champions,” wrote an ecstatic Sania on her Facebook page. With just a few days left for Id, seems like Sania was riding high on the prayers of people throughout the country that has finally been answered.
And even though Sania is not back in the country, there’s no stopping people from celebrating online. #saniamirza was trending and everybody from Bollywood superstar to a politician were seen congratulating Sania, the star of the moment.
