TenderSure facelift for 50 roads across Bengaluru city
BENGALURU: Some of the prominent roads in city such as Brigade Road, Indiranagar 100 Feet and 80 Feet Roads, Koramangala 20th Main Road, Kumara Krupa Road, Cresent Road, Race Course Road, East End (Jayanagar), Banaswadi Main Road and Avenue Road could soon wear a new look. Following the instructions of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the BBMP has identified 50 roads across the city, which will be developed under the multi-crore TenderSURE project.
Addressing reporters after a review meeting with senior BBMP officials on Saturday, District-in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the Chief Minister would inaugurate a slew of works next weekend.
“TenderSURE project will be taken up on 50 new roads stretching over 80 km distance across various parts of the city. The list of identified roads will be forwarded to the CM for his approval,” Reddy said.
The Minister added that the width of the footpath on Richmond Road will not be redesigned or reduced as nearly 50,000 people use them daily and pedestrian safety was important.
Among other projects, the CM will also inaugurate various road development works including the signal free corridors from Old Madras Road to Hope Farm Junction (Whitefield) and Nayandahalli to Central Silk Board Junction.
“Works will be taken up on the signal free corridors at the cost of Rs 300 crore and other roads will be developed at the cost of Rs 460 crore. Funds for the same have already been released under Nagarottana Scheme. Also, under the same scheme Rs 150 crore has been released for BBMP and Rs 1,000 crore to PWD to take up development works,” Reddy added.
On garbage management, he informed that a bio-methanization plant will be set up at Kormangala. “Also, works on multi-level car parking lot near Freedom Park in Gandhinagar will be taken up,” he said.
The Minister assured that BBMP elections would not be delayed any further and even if B.S. Patil Committee submits its report, elections will take place. “We will take a decision later,” he maintained.
BBMP Administrator T.M. Vijay Bhaskar said that the Palike will hold a training session for nodal officers, who are representatives of different government agencies for Co-ordination Committee, for better communication and co-ordination among the agencies.
The Chief Minister will inaugurate construction of 38 Bengaluru One centres, 35 health kiosks and two crematoriums. He is expected to lay the foundation for most of the works during a city tour next weekend.
Illegal Hoardings: Rs 2,000 crore loss
Additional Commissioner for Advertisements K. Mathai has submitted a report on illegal hoardings in the city and it stated that the BBMP was losing Rs 2,000 crore due to unauthorised hoardings. When queried about it, Reddy said the report was submitted late on Friday and he was yet to go through it.
Rocks found on TenderSure road
It has come to light that the BBMP has found rocks on 25-metre stretch between the LIC building on Residency Road and Hayes Road, where TenderSURE works are in progress. The BBMP officials said that rock cutting works were taken up and until it was completed, they could not proceed with other works.
