Salman Khurshid assures Muslims of quota

Mr Khurshid said it is the responsibility of the TRS government to implement its promise

Hyderabad: Former Union minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday assured Muslims that he would, if needed, personally appear before the apex court to argue for 12 per cent reservations for the minorities as announced by the TRS government.

Addressing in the TPCC minority cell at Gandhi Bhavan, Mr Khurshid said it is the responsibility of the TRS government to implement its promise.

“If some legal problem arises out of providing reservations, I will appear in the apex court,” Mr Khurshid said.

He said he had earlier appeared on behalf of the undivided Andhra Pradesh government when the Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy government had implemented 4 per cent reservations for Muslim minorities. He said some legal problems had prevented the Centre from extending 4 per cent reservations for Muslims across the country.

“Now the TRS government has promised hiking the reservations from 4 per cent to 12 per cent. IIf they face any legal problem I am here to defend their decision,” Mr Khurshid said.

TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said it is the time for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to implement his poll promise instead of organising Iftars and distributing free clothes.
