Oil firms caution on handling LPG
KOCHI: Senior oil company officials are aghast over the incident in which a woman and her daughter suspected to have committed by blasting an LPG cylinder at Edappally here on Saturday.
“There are 40 lakh LPG customers in the state. These are isolated incidents but that too should not happen. People should show the maturity for that. Knife is used in the kitchen to cut vegetables and same can be used for different ends also. The same is the case with LPG which should be used with utmost caution,” said an official.
He said that consumers should always be vigilant while using LPG and the LPG cylinders should be kept away from flames.
“Flammable materials like plastic should also be kept away from the cylinders. The LPG stove should be mounted on concrete or marble platform. These days we hear people using wooden platform for this and it is a strict no-no,” said the official.
He said that the kitchen should have proper ventilation to ward off any untoward incident.
“There shouldn’t be any loose wiring also in the house. The house should not be made with any flammable material. ISI-approved stove and hose should be used. In case of any emergency like leakage, the distributor should be contacted during office hours and the oil company emergency cell after that,” the official added.
