Five die, seven hurt as lorry overturns in Guntur district

Guntur rural superintendent of police, K. Narayan Naik with other officials visited the accident site

Guntur: Five people were killed on the spot and seven others severely injured on Saturday at Kondramutla village of Eepuru Mandal of the Guntur district when the lorry they were travelling overturned and plunged into a road side ditch while trying to avoid collision with a motocycle. A six year old girl Kousalya who was traveling in the lorry escaped unhurt.

According to reports, ten persons of Oddepalli village of Yerragondapalem Mandal of Prakasam district came to Kocharla of Eepuru Mandal to purchase pesticides.

While they were returning to Oddepalli in the pesticide laden lorry, a motorcycle suddenly came in front of the lorry and in a bid to avoid collision, lorry driver applied sudden brakes. As a result, the lorry turned turtle and fallen into the five feet ditch beside the road at Kondramutla village.

The villagers from Oddepalli who were sitting in the lorry cabin, D. Venkateswarlu (55), KP Venkateswarlu (50), G. Mangamma (40), M . Sundramma (35) and lorry driver Sk. Moulali (50) fell into the ditch and pesticides bags fell on them,killing them on the spot.

Five persons who were sitting on the top of lorry cabin, and motor cycle rider M. Hanumantha Rao and his mother Gangamma, were severely injured. Six-year-old D. Kousalya who was traveling with her grandfather D. Ven-kateswarlu had a miraculous escape

Guntur rural superintendent of police, K. Narayan Naik with other officials visited the accident site. Severely injured persons were first taken to Vinukonda government hospital ,and later shifted to GGH Guntur for better treatment.
