Fire breaks out at Ambattur
The incident happened after a few cartons kept went up in flames.
Chennai: Fire broke out at an open ground near Ambit IT park in Ambattur industrial estate on Saturday evening after a few cartons kept there went up in flames. No persons were reported injured in the fire. However, the area soon got engulfed with thick black smoke as the fire spread to the plants and trees nearby.
Four fire tenders from Ambattur rushed to the scene after they received the call around 3 pm. “The fire was on an open area where loads of used cartons and plastic sheets were being hoarded. The cartons belonged to a radiator manufacturing company nearby. It is not clear why the cartons were disposed of there,” Ambattur station fire officer, R. Pullani told DC.
The fire was put out within an hour and it was only a medium fire, Mr Pullani said adding that thick smoke which formed made it look like a major fire forcing other companies in the vicinity to hit the panic button. The cause of the fire is not known yet. “We suspect that someone may have thrown a cigarette butt which could have led to the fire,” fire personnel said. Ambattur estate police have registered a case and are investigating.
