Antique care
When it comes to furniture, the wood is usually of good quality but it needs care
While many like Archana Rao, love to collect antiques for their office space, the tricky part is when you have to take care of them. Interior designer Shipra Chenji shares a few tips that will help you.
“If you have silverware or brass artefacts, don’t polish them everyday. Let them age the way they are,” Shipra says, “Sometimes when you have to polish them, don’t attempt for a drastic change and use too much of polish.”
When it comes to furniture, the wood is usually of good quality but it needs care. “The areas that are exposed should be waxed regularly. If you have an old lamp or an antique door with glass fittings, don’t clean them with Colin. Using too much polish will affect them and the chemicals will ruin them. Instead, take water and just clean them every three days or so.”
Replacing the fabric needs attention. “Don’t opt for geometric designs or a modern print. Go for a material like old velvet or corduroy. This will add to the look of the furniture,” she says.
