Telangana prisons DG shoots down Revanth Reddy rant
“There is no provision for Closed Circuit TV surveillance inside the cell of a prisoner” said Mr Singh
Hyderabad: “One must remember Revanth Reddy is a politician,” was the response of director general of Telangana prisons V.K. Singh to allegations levelled by the Telugu Desam MLA and cash-for-vote scam accused Revanth Reddy about the prison he was lodged in.
Revanth Reddy had alleged that proper food was not being provided to the inmates and that corruption still existed in Telangana prisons. “He will make statements which will work to his benefit,” Mr Singh added.
At a press meet held to discuss the report card of Prisons Department, Director General V.K. Singh Singh spoke about the remarks of Revanth Reddy and the Yasin Bhatkal controversy.
“There is no provision for Closed Circuit TV surveillance inside the cell of a prisoner. Any such demand can’t be fulfilled unless we get orders about the same. We don’t have funds to fulfil such demands. We have video surveillance at the Cherlapally Prison at its entrance,” said Mr Singh.
He added that anyone who has any kind of information should be informing the prison department first. Mr Singh discussed about an initiative of the Telangana Prison Department to reform and rehabilitate convicted prisoners in coordination with the Ramakrishna Mission.
“We are contemplating the name ‘Chetana’ for the initiative. It is a massive programme which will be launched across all the prisons in Telangana. Around 10 psychologists conducted a programme at Cherlapally recently and five psychologists will be working at the Chanchalguda prison to train prisoners in communication skills and ethics,” he said.
