Kochi Metro to unveil new logo

To represent all modes of transport under UMTA

KOCHI: Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is all set to unveil the new logo of Kochi Metro which will be on the lines of the London Underground.

The new logo will have various colour adaptations to be used for boats, buses, taxis and even cycles.

Since other forms of transport will be integrated with the Metro under the proposed Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA), the Metro logo with colour variations will have to be used for all. KMRL will release the final design of coaches in aqua marine colour along with the new logo.

“There will be a main logo for Kochi Metro with related logos for other modes of transport. Though the existing logo resembling the Malayalam letter ‘ka’ is ideal for the Metro, integrating it with different colour patterns is difficult. That is why a change in the logo has been proposed,” said top sources at KMRL.

KMRL’s customer-experience consultant Tata Elxsi has finalised the new logo.

Meanwhile, KMRL officials refuted reports about giving a new name to the Kochi Metro.

“The name will not be changed and will remain as Kochi Metro. There are plans to name the co-branded smart card of Kochi Metro Rail and Axis Bank as ‘Kochi Card’,” according to sources.

Meanwhile, construction of the Metro coaches is progressing at Alstom factory in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh and the first batch will be delivered by December. Initially, nine cars will be transported from the Alstom factory.

The civil works along the Aluva – Maharajas stretch are expected to be complete as per the earlier deadline of December and the trial run along Aluva – Palarivattom corridor will be ready by January.
