Kerala Water Authority pumping station blast cuts supply

Water distribution from the Pottammal tank would be stopped till the repair is carried out

Kozhikode: The water supply to the city was stopped following an electrical blast at the KWA’s Kuttikattoor pumping station resulting in minor burn injuries to electrical assistant engineer Hemalatha and two other workers.

“The incident happened around 3.30 p.m. When the pump was charged, there was an electrical spark and our AE and two workers suffered minor burn injuries. Two workers have been admitted to the medical college. The AE was moved to a private hospital later,” Mr Shaju C. Varghese, executive engineer, KWA told DC.

He said there could be some problem in the circuit box and that was being checked. “The KSEB has disconnected the power connection. Our electrical wing is checking the circuit and if the problem is fixed we may start pumping,” he added.

Water distribution from the Pottammal tank would be stopped till the repair is carried out. Other pumping stations are working normally and water distribution will not be affected.

However, most of the city residents will not have water supply if the problem is not fixed by Saturday morning.
