High expectations on Telangana Cabinet

The Cabinet meeting is expected to clear job notifications, give age relaxation

Hyderabad: Students and contract employees have high expectations about the Telangana Cabinet meeting on Saturday. Though the main agenda of the meeting is to review arrangements for the Godavari Pushkaralu starting on July 14, they hope to get Cabinet clearance for job notifications to students and regularsiation of contract employees, which were delayed by a year leading to frequent agitations by students, especially on the Osmania University campus. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had promised to issue notification for 25,000 posts in government departments and to regularise contract employees in July during his speech at the Parade Grounds in Secunderabad during TS Formation Day celebrations last month.
The Cabinet meeting is expected to clear job notifications, give age relaxation for applicants by five years and decide on continuation of the existing zonal system for filling posts or to consider the entire state as a single zone.
A decision on job notifications was expected in the last Cabinet meeting on May 26. However, it was kept on hold as the government failed to take any decision on these crucial issues.
The regularsisation of 25,000 contract employees was also kept on hold as the government was undecided on the criterion that needs to be adopted to identify Telangana locals to extend the benefit and the selection procedure.
The general administration and law departments were working to resolve these issues since then and have submitted a report to the government making certain recommendations, which the Cabinet meeting would discuss before granting approval.
OU students formed a human chain in front of Arts College demanding issue of job notifications at the earliest. They vowed to intensify the agitation, if the government fails again to come out with a decision on this issue.
