Engineer’s wife found murdered in house

25 sovereigns of gold were reportedly stolen by intruders after murdering her

Chennai: In a suspected case of murder for gain, 23-year-old pregnant woman, wife of a civil engineer working as quality officer of IGCAR, was found murdered in their quarters in Kalpakkam in Kancheepuram district on Thursday evening.

At least 25 sovereigns of gold were reportedly stolen by intruders after murdering her. The victim, Lilly Rani, wife of E. Sundaramurthy, and their one-and-half-year-old son Nithin were at home when the incident happened.

The police said that Lili Rani was strangulated to death by assailants using a nylon rope. The suspects had later covered her head with a plastic bag, probably to make sure she died. Sundaramurthy told the police that he was trying to reach his wife since Thursday afternoon by phone but she never picked up. “He asked one of his neighbours to check and he told him that the house, which has automatic door lock system, was locked from inside. He reached home in the evening and opened the front door using his key,” the police said.

Inside the house he found his wife dead in the bathroom with her head covered with a plastic bag. All the gold ornaments she was wearing were missing along with other jewellery kept in the bureau.
Following Sundaramurthy’s complaint at the Sadras police station, senior cops rushed to the spot.
