TRS calls bandh in Mahbubnagar today over project shutdown

Shivakumar appealed to people of the district to make the bandh a success
Hyderabad: The ruling TRS is furious over Andhra Pradesh’s letter to the Central Water Commission to stop construction of Palamuru-Ranga Reddy and Nakkalagandi Lift irrigation schemes and called for Mahbubnagar bandh on Friday. TRS Mahbubnagar district president, B. Shivakumar appealed to people of the district to make the bandh a success. This is the second TRS bandh after the Polavaram issue in the new state. Protests rocked Mahbubnagar where TRS activists burnt effigies of AP Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, to protest his attempts to stall the Palamuru irrigation project. Telangana and AP governments are heading for another row.
Calling Mr Naidu ‘Telangana and Mahbubnagar drohi’ (traitor) and condemning his ‘crooked actions’, irrigation minister T. Harish Rao said Telangana irrigation secretary gave a suitable reply to his Andhra counterpart stating it is not a new project and the government is going ahead with the Palamuru project come what may. The Telangana government is also sending a detailed reply to CWC.
that the Palamuru Lift Irrigation is not a new project and it was approved by governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh. “We made it clear to AP we are going ahead with Palamuru--Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project. The project was cleared in undivided Andhra Pradesh. While Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy ordered a survey, former Chief Minister, Kiran Kumar Reddy sanctioned '6.91 crore for a detailed survey and detailed project report on 8.8.2013 to irrigate an ayacut of 10 lakh acres. The Telangana CM laid the foundation stone and it is not a new project as claimed by AP,” T Harish Rao, said.
Referring to the unauthorised Pattiseema project, he said the Telangana government in a gesture of goodwill did not object to it but Mr Naidu was shamelessly trying to stall projects in Telangana. The Telangana government is utilising only its share of Krishna waters, he added. “We are not constructing projects secretly as done in the case of Pothireddypadu. Telangana is utilising its share of Krishna waters for drought, migration and fluoride hit Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts. It is also used for drinking water needs of Hyderabad. The day is not far off when Mr Naidu will be driven away from Hyderabad with stones by Seema Andhra people if he continues to indulge in such wretched behaviour,” Harish Rao warned.
AP principal secretary to the government’s, Water Resources Department wrote a letter to CWC on June 11, 2015 to direct Telangana government to stop construction of two new projects---Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and Nakkalagandi Lift Irrigation Scheme ---by drawing water from Srisailam reservoir without clearance and approval from Krishna River Management Board, CWC and Apex council.
AP government said Krishna water sharing issue was pending before the Tribunal and construction of projects also violates the AP Reorganisation Act. It sought a reply from Telangana government.
Industries Minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, Medical and Health Minister Laxma Reddy, Mahabubnagar MP, A Jitender Reddy, MLA Srinivas Goud, MLC, Karne Prabhakar, and TRS Mahabubnagar district president, Shivakumar condemned Mr Naidu’s actions. “No one can stall the Palamuru and other Telangana irrigation projects,” Krishna Rao said.
