Rahul Gandhi to console ryots

Rahul Gandhi's padayatra is in Puttaparthi Assembly constituency in Anantapur district
Anantapur: AP Congress Committee sought to highlight Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's padayatra in Puttaparthi Assembly constituency in Anantapur district on July 24.
Mr Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to go on a walkathon for about 16 km between Nallamada and O.D. Cheruvu mandal headquarters to console the families of farmers, who committed suicide due to high debt burden resulting from crop failures and apathetic policies of state and Central governments.
In the course of his padayatra, Rahul Gandhi would disburse financial aid to families of farmers who committed suicide in the constituency on behalf of APCC. The Congress leader would interact with farmers and visit fields during his one-day programme.
APCC chief N. Raghuveera Reddy said, "Rahul Gandhi would console 570 families of farmers who committed suicide in the district in the last one-and-a-half years at one point during padayatra."
Families of deceased's farmers from all parts of the district would attend the programme, where Rahul Gandhi would hand over financial aid to each family. Party leaders from various parts of the state have contributed towards the compensation.
Recalling how the Anantapur DCC had taken an initiative to help the kin of farmers through party president Sonia Gandhi during the TD government, Mr Raghuveera Reddy observed that hundreds of farmers had committed suicide during the previous Chandrababu Naidu regime in the erstwhile undivided AP. Anantapur Congress leaders collected donations from the public and leaders for family members of farmers to teach a lesson to TD, recalled the APCC president.
