Purohits angry over insistence on ID cards
A tussle has been triggered between Bhadrachalam local Brahmin purohits and the endowment department
Khammam: A tussle has been triggered between Bhadrachalam local Brahmin purohits and the endowment department on issuance of identity cards to them, to perform pindapradanam at pushkarghats.
Bhadrachalam priests are opposing the move on the ground that they had conducted the rituals for the last three pushkarams and they do not need identity cards. They are also raising objections on the fixing of rates to perform pindapradanam to forefathers by pilgrims. Gouthami Brahmin, Purohit Archaka Sanghan opposed the diktat of the endowment department and issued identity cards to 125 Brahmin purohits.
The sangham president, Ramavdhyala Ravi Kumar said that they are local priests and they do not need identity cards from the endowment department adding that fixing a rate of Rs 250 for pindapradanam is not proper. But, the ED is going ahead with its formula and called for applications.
