KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has announced setting up of a women’s hostel exclusively for SC/ST.
The facility will come up on the 18.20 cents of land owned by the civic body at Kombara, Ayyappankavu.
SC and backward classes minister A. P. Anil Kumar will kick off its construction works today, mayor Tony Chammany told a press conference here on Thursday.
The hostel will have 28 rooms, a recreation hall and a waiting room which can accommodate 97 persons.
Women coming to the city for education, job and interview purposes can utilise the safe and reasonable accommodation facility.
The corporation has announced the hostel as part of the Mission Kochi 15-08-15 programme. The estimated cost for the project is Rs 4.32 crore and the Kerala State Housing Board has made the structural design of the building, which will be operational in a year, he said.
