CM Chandrababu Naidu to block Palamuru lift irrigation project

TRS and TDP have already engaged in verbal duel over the irrigation projects

Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu returned to Delhi after his three day visit to Japan and prepared to complain against Telangana to the Centre on a host of issues. He will be meeting Uma Bharathi, the water resources minister and lodge a protest over Palamuru lift irrigation project.

He will also meet Rajnath Singh on Friday and is likely to raise the issue of implementation of Section 8 in Hyderabad and the attitude of the TRS government on Schedule X institutions.

This is to counter TS which opposed AP’s Pattiseema Irrigation project the other day.

While the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation scheme is conceived to irrigate around ten lakh acres in three district and also to provide drinking water and industrial needs of Hyderabad; Pattiseema is to provide drinking water needs of Rayalaseema region.

Palamuru project is taken up by lifting 90 tmc ft water from the foreshore of Srisailam reservoir, Pattiseema is designed with the flood water of Godavari.

TRS and TDP have already engaged in verbal duel over the irrigation projects. Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has strongly codemned the AP attitude saying that the project was conceived with the water that is alloted to Telangana share.

“The lift irrigation project was designed and approved before the bifurcation. It was targetted to provide water only for one crop. It is a deliberate attempt of Chandrababu to thwart the project and make the ryots of Telangana suffer. Hyderabad is in the Krishna basin and so providing water to the city is legitimate but Mr Naidu who wants control over the city does not want it either” he lambasted.

Countering his argument, Ravula Chandrasekhara Reddy, T-TD leader and former MLA, said that it was TD which developed Telangana on irrigation front.

“If another Rs 1000 crore is spent, all the balance works in Palamuru would be over and eight lakh acres can be provide with water. But KCR government does not want it. It incites people against Chandrababu “ Chandrasekhara Reddy criticized.

CM to meet Rajnath
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will also meet Rajnath Singh on Friday and is likely to raise the issue of implementation of Section 8 in Hyderabad and the attitude of the TRS government on Schedule X institutions.

He may seek central intervention or even a legislation during the parliament session for maintaining status quo over the institutions.

Mr Naidu may also inform Rajnath Singh on the complaints his govenrmen lodged with President Pranab Mukharjee during the latter’s recent southern soujourn.

“Since the Centre alone can take a decision as per the Reorganization Act, the meeting assumes significance. Mr Naidu may seek a permanent solution for all the issues and he would discuss it with other ministers like Venkaiah Naidu etc” informed sources said.

Chief Minister’s Delhi engagements is seen as a pressure-building tactis over his Telangana counter part who is going rather aggressively on the cash-for-vote scam.
