Andhra Pradesh police book MLA victim
Rajahmundry: The police has registered a case against Musunuru tahsildar, D. Vanajakshi and her staff of Krishna district on charges of assaulting and outraging the modesty of Dwcra women at Pedavegi police station in West Godavari in the wee hours on Thursday.
According to Pedavegi SI V. Ramakoteswara Rao, based on a complaint lodged by one of the two Dwcra women who suffered minor injuries, Meesala Kumari, a case was booked against the Musunuru tahsildar and her staff with crime no. 117/2015 under Sections 354, 324, 323 read with 34 of IPC dealing with assault and outraging the modesty.
It may be mentioned that when the woman tahsildar lay down on the ground in front of a vehicle to stop mining of sand from the bed of Tammileru stream at Vijayarai village of Pedavegi mandal in West Godavari, several Dwcra women who gathered there in large numbers forcibly lifted the officer allegedly at the behest of TD MLA from Dendulur, Chinthamaneni Prabhakar.
There was jostling and pushing in the melee. Several Dwcra women suffered minor injuries and two of them were admitted to a government hospital in Eluru.
They were identified as Meesala Kumari and Naga Lakshmi. The hospital sent a medico legal case intimation to Pedavegi police station.
Musunuru tahsildar D. Vanajakshi said, “It is unfair to book a case against me and my staff. We were the victims in the assault by the Dwcra women and we are being implicated in a false case. As a mandal executive magistrate, it is my duty to protect the properties of the government. When the police failed to stop illegal sand mining at Ragampeta sand reach, I found no option but to lie down in front of the machine to stop it.”
“In case of any border dispute on the exact location of the sand reach where Dwcra women are mining sand, the issue should have been settled by carrying out a land survey. Though the Pedavegi tahsildar was asked to rush to the sand reach to find out in whose jurisdiction it falls, the official failed to turn up. There is no need for an MLA to come there and get involved in the issue. I even intend to commit suicide given the kind of humiliation I was subjected to and the harassment being meted out to me. I want justice,” she said.
Meanwhile, the TD MLA Chinthamaneni Prabhakar has a criminal record as nearly 38 cases were booked against him on charges of assaulting public officials. He was also booked under SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act in several cases.
