Net trap: Nigerian held for online fraud in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The CCS has arrested a Nigerian on Thursday for allegedly cheating a woman on the pretext of marriage and extorting money from her.
Police said the Nigerian created a fake profile on the matrimonial site Bharathmatrimony.com and posted an unknown person’s picture to mislead the victim.
The victim who believed him deposited Rs 40 lakh in his bank account. Police said the prime accused Bob registered on Bharatmatrimony.com as Dr Abhishek Mohan working in Britain.
In Matrimonialindia.com, he registered as Sam Frank Michael. From these websites, he used to collect details of rich unmarried women, unmarried software professionals and contact them. He also used to introduce himself as an NRI working in Britain and propose to marry them.
“He regularly contacts them using different numbers and builds a rapport with them. Once the women are convinced he makes them believe that he is sending them a parcel with expensive gifts,” said an official from CCS.
After this his aides contact the victim and tell them that they received a parcel from Britain. They introduce themselves as officials from the customs department and ask them to deposit money for customs tax.
Similarly, they demand money to pay for clearance from the terrorist department and IMF. Similarly, they collected nearly Rs 40 lakh from three victims.
The money deposited by these victims would be withdrawn immediately and shared. Bob pays nearly 10% commission to those who allow their accounts to be used.
