WhatsApp's new update will make voice calling cheaper than before!
None of us can deny the fact that WhatsApp is considered as the new SMS platform across the world. The introduction of free WhatsApp voice calling feature created a hype among its users at the very beginning of this year. Later it was discovered that voice calls via WhatsApp aren’t free in real sense and could only be considered as a secondary option.
Taking into consideration a 3G data plan, a ten-minute call on WhatsApp could cost you as much as Rs 40 to Rs 50 of your Internet data . Additionally, the quality of voice calls via WhatsApp is not up to the mark.
There has been a decrease in the number of calls made via WhatsApp, due to excessive data consumption and low quality. However, WhatsApp developers are currently working on bug fixes and improving its performance. Technology Personalised reported that WhatsApp is now trying to cut down on its data consumption via voice calls. Its developers have rolled out the new 2.12.5 beta version for selective iOS users.

It offers its users an option to switch to ‘Low Data Usage’, with the aim of making voice calls cheaper. The description in above screenshot clearly mentions, ‘Enabling this option further lowers the amount of cellular or WiFi data used during a VoIP call.’ At present, this beta version is only available on few iOS devices during its initial stages.
